George, did that knock-off television series "Lost in Space" ever make it
to England? It ran here originally in the 1960s. No one in it you'd
probably remember except Robbie the Robot. It was a pale imitation of
"Forbidden Planet."

Ha! A couple of weeks ago your conspiratorial world view consisted of Eva
Durant and yours truly. Now, with George Szaszvari, we're a "little cell".
Scary! But I can understand. I know what you're going through. I've been
there myself. A couple of years ago I needed professional help. After my
first visit, the psychiatrist told me I was paranoid. I didn't believe her,
so I got a second opinion. The second doctor also said that I was paranoid.
So I went to the third, fourth and fifth doctor and they all said that I was
paranoid. It was only then that I realized the extent of the conspiracy.
This is the state you're in now, Sam. Get over it!

I guess you have a lot of trouble understanding why some of us, with some
Hungarian background and history, can still look at certain political and
economic theories and not go into fits of rage, which to me, have almost
always looked like what I would imagine a personal Orwellian "two minutes of
hate" would look like.

First of all, nothing is outside "the political structure". It is your
political ideology that allows you to view some human activity as being
"outside". Secondly, how do you know where I exert my energies?

>If you're so offended by the injustices you

Good point! Do you think that I would look good in Mother Theresa drag? I
would really enjoy some street level work as long as I didn't get charged
with soliciting.

You think so, eh? And why the ballot box? Well, the ballot box, democracy,
is in opposition to capitalism and, for lack of a better description, the
American concept of individuality, which to me is nothing more than a very
clever marketing tool.

OK...*BOYS!!!* (get it so far?)... this is about the third reference to
D.H's life story... since I have not been privy to any of it, would
someone be kind enough to supply???

Thanks and regards,

PS... I am sure that it will make for some more interesting reading, than
the bashing I have wittnessed so far.. back and forth...forth and
back...and have no doubt that it will be a far sight more interesting
thatn the LM's fantasy!!!

Yes, several times over, but I'm much more of a *Trekker* and *X-Phile*.
BTW does anyone know whether Kirk & Spock (and the X-Files) ever made it
to Hungarian terrestrial TV? (They get everything on satellite now, I
know.) Are there any Hungarian produced efforts at the sci-fi genre?

Have you seen Andrei Tarkovsky's *Solaris*? Best sci-fi-cum-psycho-
philosophical movie I've seen....Tarkovsky took the raw material of the
book (by Stanislaw Lem) and elaborated (and deepened) the whole thing
beautifully....

Regards,

George

Thanks to Gabor Fencsik's further information about 'Szol a kakas.' I too
did some more checking, in the *Jewish Encyclopedia* of early in this cen-
tury--no luck. I will try the more up-to-date *Encyclopaedia Judaica* later
this week. I also tried to check Fenyvesi's *Mikor kerek volt a vilag,*
but like so many Hungarian books, this lacks an index, and I didn't have
the patience to skim through the whole thing in hopes of finding a reference.

Of course, it is intriguing to think that that the *tune* may be 400 years
old, with some 19th century guy stumbling upon it and perhaps writing new
words--rather like our old Southern *Dixie*.

God bless Eva Balogh and her Magyar Zsido Lexikon! Indeed, Rabbi Taub is
the *second* tzaddik (usual English form) buried in Nagykallo whose tomb
is an object of pilrimage to religious Jews in Hungary. Unfortunately,
the *Jewish Encyclopedia* had no entry for him at all. It is possible
however that the *Magyar Zsido Lexikon* might have his first name in its
usual romanized spelling of Yitzhak or Isaak or something like that.

But, alas, we are no closer to "Szol a kakas"!

Alas, it doesn't. There is no entry with Taub. There are several Taubers but
not one of them has the name of either Izsa'k or Yitzhak. Moreover, not one
of them was even close to Nagykallo. Really annoying.

And, by the way, the "cadik/tzaddik" status--was it running in the Taub family?

There is nothing unique in the Hungarian experience with Marxism-Leninism.
Nothing. It has been repeated over and over again in nations throughout
the world with varying degrees of brute force applied to keep the masses
in line. Sorry, comrade. On this one you lose.

I have trouble understanding why anyone who had been through what the
Hungarians have been through could still insist that Marxism-Leninism is a
viable option. Joe, didn't your own family flee to Canada because of the
events of 1956? Glad to see I've taken the wind out of your sails. You're
having to screech about "the American concept of individuality" instead of
addressing the questions I asked you. I'm particularly interested in your
admission that you disdain putting your beliefs into action anywhere
outside the political arena. Love your fellow man in the abstract but not
all that crazy about him in the concrete, hm? Why am I not surprised? Oh,
and wipe the spittle off your chin.

You wish, Dougie, you wish. BTW, someone posted on here a little while ago
asking for your life story. I'm sure you'll be delighted to furnish all of
it to them. I'd skip the part where you claim to be a post-doctoral
researcher at Stanford's JPL. Somehow, I don't think they'll buy it.
