I am looking for help in bringing a Hungarian woman and her two children
permanently into the U.S. I would appreciate advice from anyone who has
successfully done this or other contacts that might be able to assist.

Any options will be considered including marrying a U.S. citizen of
Hungarian descent.

This woman is a wonderful person with excellent children who has a
horrible lot in Budapest. Any leads or suggestions will be greatly
appreciated.

I am using a friends Internet address. Please reply to his email
address.

Look Smart for Americans only??

The new web Search engine, LookSmart claims to be an international web
tool. It has been reported in the Melbourne Age (Tuesday Nov 26,
1996)
(http://www.theage.com.au:80/infotech/c261196a.htm until it expires)
that possibly the non-American companies are not being given equal
access
to the facility.

The engine software was written in Australia and is now being operated
as
Look Smart with Readers Digest.

How do YOUR country's companies fare in LookSmart?

For Australia/Australian:
Look Smart: 30 (ref. Age article)
  Alta Vista: 200,000+
  Web Wombat: 700,000+ pages
  UltraSeek: 390,000

This movie is another of those "sleepers" as "The Usual Suspect" was,
though it deserves more attention than it probably gets. It also has a
Hungarian "connection", though a more positive one than the other movie.

The title character of English Patient is actually a Hungarian, Count
Laszlo Almasy who apparently got educated in England and became a
member of the Royal Historical Society, participating in an archeological
expedition in North Africa before WW II broke out. That's where the
story starts and ends in Italy when the war ends, too.

The setting and the story has the air of "Casa Blanca" somewhat, I
thought. All in all, a pretty good movie, I think.

Anybody knows if it's and adaptation of some book? From the Hungarian
hero, it sounds it might have been something Baroness Orczy wrote.

Go and see it if you can!

C'mon, Joe! (Are you being naive?) Hey, it's Adrian Nastase -- one of

Well, let's hope you're right, G Man! On the other hand, I recall how
propoganda like that was able to turn around Romanian sentiments in the
wake of the '89 Revolution. It took them less than 3 months.

You are in your BS mode again, Wally. You know darn well that they
would have already charged any of those Hungarians against whom they have
any proof. Whatever contact the UDMR has with Hungarian officials,
those are pretty open, above the board and have to do with cultural and
human rights and not with irredentism or such which were supposed to
have been taken care of with the Basic Treaty, anyway.

Interesting, that you don't bring up a much more relevant example with
the Tyroleans in Northern Italy. They seem to be pretty content now
staying in Italy after their grievances were addressed.

Long time, no see!

Yes, although the fact that they call it *The **English** Patient* is a
little bit misleading, since the protagonist is a Hungarian.

<snip snip>

It is based on the novel by the Canadian author Michael Ondaatje, who won
the Booker Prize in Britain for the book several years ago.

3. Interactive services
3.1 What's available on the World Wide Web

The following is the chapter recently removed from the main body of
the hungarian-faq. This is not yet completely re-edited for stand-alone
format, nor completing a collection of all important links has been
attempted. For more comprehensive WWW directories see, for example:
<http://www.hungary.com/hudir/>;, <http://www.hungary.com/hudir/>; or

This version 0.2 contains some aditional links not shown in 0.1,=20
see the HTML listing appended near the end of this document!

Subject: 3. INTERACTIVE SERVICES

If you are using Hungarian interactive services from abroad (or vice
versa): please note that interactive Internet connections like WWW
may be very slow, even timing out during peak hours - try times of
lower network load when the response time is usually reasonable.

Subject: 3.1 What's available on the World Wide Web

This document you are reading now is hosted at
<http://www.hix.com/hungarian-faq/hungarian-faq/web>;, and its directory
has a few other documents and several links to other sites of
interest.

The Hungarian Home Page is at
<http://www.fsz.bme.hu/hungary/homepage.html>; with links to the
registered Hungarian www servers, including

     - the Prime Minister's Office: <http://www.meh.hu>; (overseas users
    please notice that the use of the <http://www.hungary.com/meh/>;

Hungarian FTP sites is indexed and can be searched.

The Hungary Online Directory (HUDIR) is at

To check out fresh content, see <http://www.hix.com/friss2/>;, which
gives you a comprehensive table of content for new material arrived in
the last 24 hours (which is typically in the order of 100-150 pages).
Besides back issues of its email journals, and a plethora of other
files in Hungarian and English, it offers an on-line English-Hungarian,
Hungarian-English dictionary (<http://www.hix.com/hix/szotar/>; - its

gosh it's late, 4:30am, but there came a word to mind: "do:go:re'zni", a
strange extension of do:go:lni megyek, which should be known by us all... but,
still, i'm in a quandry as to the "re'zni" suffix... any explanans,
clarifications, etymologies would be appreciated...

it seem akin to zaba'lkozni, but i remain unclear...

comments welcome!

Well, Romanian officials HAVE incorporated members of UDMR into
the government, didn't they?. The oposition's desperate and
irresponsible attempts to create any kind of dissensions in the
ruling coalition do not qualify as acts of the "Romanian officials".
I am surprised that you can fall for this oldest trick from the "Manual
of the devious politician".

+ - enamel - signs (mind) VÁLASZ  Feladó: (cikkei)

Hello,

sorry but I have to write in english.

My question:

Does anybody of you know a factory, which makes
those old advertising enamel-signs (for example with "Coca Cola" or
something like this)?

Some details concerning the signs I'm looking for:

base under enamel:
metal / sheet-steel.

Size of items:
Different sizes ranging from between (for example) 10 * 20 cm,
rectangular, till 70 * 50 cm (rectangular), or different geometrical
forms.

Number of colours:
Between 2 colours and 8 colours.

Eventually I'm interested in purchasing them.
Can you please not post the question in this newsgroup, but write the
answer to my e-mail address?

Its:

That's it.
Thanks and regards,

I agree with the above and the same idea came to my mind, that On The
Spot Fines are absolutely uncalled for and a corruptive.

This year I went to Hungary twice. First in May than this month.

Since I had to go Oroshaza both occasions I was stopped by the police on

the E5 to Szeged. The first trip 3 times, twice going and once coming.
Remember it's a relatively short trip!!

While the last time I was stopped twice the same way and finally, once
on the Budaorsi ut, the night before I left the country.

It's obvious, that these type of activities must be changed on part of
the police and On The Spot Fines must be stopped. When are they going to

wake up?
