Hey, Olivier, why don't you come here and scream from the top of the
Quebec Parliament, like your great "Fuhrer" De Gaulle did, "Vive le
Quebec libre"?

so you can go to the different categories to find what you are looking for.
You can find this great page at :

http://www.isfa.com/server/web/links.html

3) ISFA'S PREDICTION LEAGUE / YOU MAKE THE CALL !

The ISFA Prediction League is now in full swing ! As from the month of
January we will have prizes for the Monthly Winner and the Runner -up. We
will be announcing these prizes next week. We will also have a Grand Prize
for the Season Winner which will be announced at a later date.

The same will apply to the You Make The Call (YMTC) Competition where you
answer a hypothetical situation you encounter as a referee in a game. The
questions come from an actual Austrian Referee so it is really challenging
to make the call !

You can find these ISFA Competitions at :

Name the poets that are not self-appointed.

Can you send more info on your flat rate .... I'm in Canada, I don't know
if it would apply from here, too?

Thanks

| Haliho, Istvan!
|
| Yes, it is a ridiculous idea for both reasons. If you have ever heard
| blacks speak who live in Great Britain, you know that those who are
| native-born do not have West Indian or African accents (much as I enjoy
| those dialects - West Indian speech is actually very musical and very
| expressive). The native English speakers speak the Queen's English just
| as well as she does. I think it is an insult to black people to propose
| that they cannot learn standard English and it is disproven as well by
| many blacks in the States who *do* speak beautiful
standard English.

In fact this is the only account I read of this that
referred to the inability of blacks to learn English. The
subject has come up in multiple places, and this claim I've
only seen here.

| Unfortunately, it is not only among blacks that facility in spoken and
| written English is deteriorating; that is true for younger people of all
| ethnic groups and I think a big part of it is the failure of the schools
| to actually demand that young people learn to speak and
write properly.

Agreed... Note what my objection is to and for. I was
actually at a gathering (somewhere between a family
gaterhing and a party) with (educated) Jamaican people,
speaking with a Jamaican accent, and as you did, I enjoyed
their pronounciation and dialect very much (and as Professor
Labov said what is a language but a dialect with an army
:)). In fact I just love Nat King Cole's accent.

Hi Christian:

I'm probably showing my Yankee optimism, but I don't interperate the
virtual reaction in same light as you do. I think that there isn't
any pervassive fixation on the problems of Hungarian-Romanian
reconciliation because the underlying problems are clearly being
solved, and were being solved even while the Iliescu regime was trying
to play up ethnic anymosities by flirting with the pseudo-fascist
right.

The reason that these conflicts are being resolved is for the simple
reason that neither community will win through conflict. Hungary has
been reforming her economy, and is starting to enjoy the fruits of the
past few years of labor. A war would keep her from reaching Western
economic standards for another generation. Romania hadn't engaged in
any economic reform while the neo-communist regime still ruled. At
this point, her interests are in fast-forwarding her economic and
political reform so that she'll be invited to join NATO next year.
Conflict with Hungary not only will keep Romania from embarking on
those needed reforms, but even if it didn't, would guarantee
that she won't be considered for NATO. So, both communities,
understanding this reality, are more interested in focussing on the
important issues of economic (and in Romania, political) reform and
just don't see the dangers of inter-communal hostilities as realistic
enough to worry about.

However, I think that it is precissely now, when popular attention is
turned towards more important issues of economic betterment and
democratic institutionalization, that we should bring an end to a
millenium of conflict and emnity. It can be done, as was proven in
the Franco-German case.

Hey Agnes, Your shrillness is beginning to sound like a skreech. Or as our
great Pierre Trudeau said, "mange le merde" when confronted by a group of
persons with loud voices. The French in Quebec are acting to protect their
culture in the same manner as English Canadians take measures to protect
what they deem to be Canadian culture in the face of the USAmerican
beomoth to the south.
