No, the context was freedom of the press in general -- the reporter didn't
mention the Media Law issue at all. While we are at it, can somebody explain
what does this mean (from today's Hi1rmondo1 quoting Ne1pszabadsa1g):

It's the last sentence that I don't grasp: who is saying that no
decision-making body can be operating outside the organization of the state?
Such bodies have always existed (except perhaps in the darkest totalitarian
periods, though even than many minor decisions must have remained outside the
grasp of the state) and will no doubt continue to exist. Is the MSZP/SZDSZ
position on the matter that this _must_ be a state-run organization?

I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but what the heck.  NPR
had some VOA spokesman on yesterday, talking about the availability of
audio files containing broadcasts in various languages.

I checked it out, and waddayaknow, it works.

Anyway, you can ftp/WWW/gopher (haven't tested gopher service) to
ftp.voa.gov, and then look into pub/radio/audio.

Here's a snippet from the README file:

Our native format for audio files is Sun Microsystems' 8-bit u-law
encoding at a rate of 8000 samples/second.  If you have software that
can play this format or software that can convert this format to an
appropriate format for your local computing environment, these are the
files you should download.  They are compact (relatively speaking) and
contain all the information that we collected from our analog source at
the time we performed the analog-to-digital conversion.  The Sun format
also appears to be an unofficial Internet standard.  These files have
names that end in the extension ".au" on our server, and can be found
in the directory /pub/radio/audio/ulaw (FTP) or under the menu item
"Sun Microsystems AU Format" (Gopher).

We also support Microsoft's RIFF encoding at a rate of 11,025
samples/second in both 16-bit and 8-bit resolution.  The higher
sampling rate of course results in bigger files but not in better
quality: due to the nature of the conversion process from the u-law
format, even the 16-bit files actually are of slightly poorer quality
than the Sun originals and the 8-bit files are noticeably noisy.  (The
8-bit linear RIFF encoding contains significantly less information than
the 8-bit u-law encoding.  However, the 8-bit files are half the size
of the better-sounding 16-bit versions, and therefore can be downloaded
in half the time.)  All the sound-playing tools we have seen for
IBM-style personal computers support the RIFF format, which seems to
be the lingua franca of audio in the PC realm.  If you can't use the
Sun files, these probably will work.
